Learning Cell #3: Memory Verse Challenge

Numbers 15:37-39

"And Yahweh spake unto Moses, saying, 'Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue... that ye may look upon it, and remember all the Commandments of Yahweh, and do them..."

ANCIENT MONUMENTS:

In Bible times, one important role that art played was serving as monuments and memorials. This form of art was deeply religious. Monuments and memorials were set up to help people remember something God had done. Monuments and memorials stood as a witness to the power of God. Of course, we have no interest in pagan gods or their idolatrous memorials, but Yahweh is honored in memorials and monuments, too!

WRITING: MONUMENTS (Grades 4-8)

Writing Prompt:
In the Bible, the people of Israel set up twelve stones by the Jordan River so children would ask, “Why are these stones here?” The stones helped them remember how God helped them cross the river.

Writing Assignment:
Imagine you could make your own pile of remembering stones. What important thing would you want people to remember about Yahweh?

  1. Draw a picture of three stones stacked together.

  2. On each stone, write one word or short sentence about something important to remember about Yahweh (for example:  a time God helped you, or a special day).

  3. Write 3–5 sentences explaining why these stones help you remember something important.

Goal:
Discover how memorials help people remember important moments and things about Yahweh.
